March 2019: Javan Rhinoceros

Javan Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus)

FaunaFocus is featuring its second rhinoceros species, the Javan rhinoceros!

This small rhino is the rarest and most endangered of all rhinoceros species with the Rhinocerotidae family. There are no captive Javan rhinoceroses and all wild ones live in the Ujung Kulon National Park on the western portion of the island of Java in Indonesia. This herbivorous animal is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
