The bearded vulture is certainly a really epic bird that captured my attention right away. I just love how their red rimmed pale eyes stand out against the lovely ruffs of rusty cream plumes of feathers on their heads. I tried to capture some of this in my digital painting. I also wanted to capture that sort of stance you see in vultures a lot when they are sort of hunched leaning very forward over a meal in sort of a defensive way, with feathers poofed out.
Honestly, I’m not sure I captured this as well as I would have liked; I think something in the perspective is probably off. I wasn’t even really sure if I would be able to complete this one on time as I’ve been a bit distracted doing other things lately with my art, and to be honest I kind of did this last minute. However I still do like aspects of how it turned out, and I really wanted to participate in this month’s challenge as its such fantastic looking creature. I may have to revisit this bird again and spend some more time on it though, because it is such a cool animal and I would like to do it justice, and also part of me would like to try a more dynamic pose with the wings spread out.
