Mother ring-tailed lemurs are the only ones to provide care for the young and will even care for the offspring of other females in the troop.
Care of ring-tailed lemur young lies solely with the mother, with males in the group having little to no impact on raising young. Females are responsible for grooming, feeding, weaning, and teaching their young.
Females in the troop have even been frequently observed caring for other female’s offspring as well as babysitting, feeding, and grooming.
