Slender-snouted crocodiles inhabit forest, savanna, inland wetlands, marine neritic, and marine coastal/supratidal habitats.
They are primarily found in tropical rainforests along the shores of shallow rivers and larger bodies of water, but also in lightly covered savanna woodlands. They are most frequently found in freshwater environments and occasionally in brackish waters of coastal lagoons.
This species prefers forested rivers and other densely vegetated bodies of water such as reservoirs and freshwater lagoons, but has also been found in sparsely vegetated, gallery habitats
within savanna woodland.
When these crocodiles leave the water, they tend to stay in sheltered or protected areas to avoid predation. In the water, they usually swim just below the surface.
