Great Horned Owl

Female great horned owls are larger than males and weight about 50% more.

The sex difference in great horned owls is best known. Females are much larger than males, yet they possess smaller syringes.

Males measure from 18-23 inches, with females much larger at 22-25 inches. Females weigh about 50% more than males with males weighing about 3-3.8 pounds and females weighing up to 4.8 pounds.

Contrarily, the syringes of females average 17% smaller than those of males.
