Free-For-All: Kea

FFA

The kea have caught my interest as a mischievous bird with a hidden flash of rainbow under that camouflage forest of feathers. Although found more natively in the South island of New Zealand, I have been lucky enough to have come across them in nature reserves.

Visual Kraft Design

The FaunaFocus Free-For-All is an art competition that is open to all and is intended to foster community-based learning while celebrating successes and encouraging artists to improve from discipline and criteria.

January 2021’s Free-For-All featured the kea.

Visual Kraft Design used digital media to reveal the hidden rainbow of colors underneath the kea’s wingspan. With a surreal arrangement of highly saturated foliage surrounding the bird, the piece is given a whimsical, magical feeling.
